REPTON BOYS CLUB Established in 1884 by The Repton Public School in Derbyshire, the Repton Boys Club was founded in Bethnal Green in the heart of London's east end as a mission for underprivileged children. The Repton became a popular place amongst the less fortunate youngsters of the day, giving them a meeting place where common interests could be shared. The club has moved three times from it's original position in Victoria Park square, but has never strayed from it's roots in the east end ,and now resides at the site of the old washing baths in Dumbridge Street Bethnal Green. The Repton Public School itself had been founded in 1557 with a legacy left by Sir John Port, a wealthy and visionary man of his time, who believed that the hope and future is always in the hands of the young ,and that the wealth and strength of any community or society is founded in knowledge. Many young people have benefited from his generosity and foresight and continue to do so to this day.
