Gold Medal & 13 finalists for Repton

Repton junior John Johnstone clinched Euro gold for the second year in succession when hetriumphed at the European junior championships in Lviv Ukraine last Saturday.

Four wins in a five days including a final success over home favourite Artem Lapin clinched 63kg victory for Johnstone, just 15 this week and conceding over a year in age to most of his rivals.

The 25th anniversary clash between Repton and old rivals the Belfast Dockers  ended with the scores level at 3-3 at the Chiswell Street Brewery on Friday night.

However Repton thought they deserved victory after a good boxing display from their former national titleholder Michael McCarthy - but the Irish judges cast their deciding votes in favour of his rival Sean Meaghan.

Ten successful boxers in the ring for Repton at Swindon on Saturday plus ten walkover winners sends a massive twenty club hopes through to the quarter finals at Portsmouth this weekend.

Roberto Lacourt eliminated Lenny Penfold (Ferndown) in first round of the Class A 34kg clash while Barney Docherty outscored Tyler Kelly (Frome) at 37kg

Dave Tierney continued his progress at 40kg when he proved too good for Western Counties hope Fire Virk (Chard).

21 More Champs for 'Home of Champions'


Repton's highly successful schools squad continued their impressive title march claiming 21 London titles at the weekend.

In a hectic programme five of the new Repton champions had to box on Saturday and Sunday including Barney Docherty who scored a second round win over Hayes rival Steve Rainey in semi final.

He followed up outpointing Fisher's Aaron Hickey to win the London the Class A 37 kgs title.

The Show has been staged for the last 25 years at The Brewery, Chiswell St, London EC1. The doors will be opening at 6pm

Repton boxing club launched a powerful assault on the England schools title trail with a record-breaking 22 winners in the NE London championships,

The club triumphs in the Ilford finals on Saturday included several winners who had won semi final bouts two days earlier at Chingford.

These included Patrick Connors who eliminated Newham's Harry Mehegan in the Class A 32.5kg semi final then  defeated  Hamzah Sheriff (East london) in the final.

Repton's Harvey Horn chalked up an impressive international success in Blida Algeria, on Thursday with a vital win that enabled the GB Lionhearts squad to defeat the Algerian Desert Hawks 3-2.

Light-flyweight Horn who lost in his recent Lions debut against a strong Mexican rival took his chance in style against Zoheir Toudjine in the latest of the World Series of Boxing clashes.

Jamie Branch Title Chase 2015

Repton's Jamie Branch, last year's England finalist, launched his 2015 campaign beating Daniel Mendez (Peacock) and now faces old rival Lawrence Okolie (Dagenham) on Friday.

The pair were both at the Repton club - but far from friends - when they clashed in the NE London championships in 2014, Branch won then reached the national final, an outstanding achievement for an 18-year-old heavyweight.
